Dead Man's Cellphone

Dead Man's Cellphone was a show performed in the blackbox, Strother, of Ball State in the Fall of 2019. I was the Technical Director for this show.

For this show my scenic designer and I wanted to try something new for both of us which was printing on muslin. We used our schools plotter to print the design of each button onto the muslin which then served as the cover for the light box.

Director: David Little

Scenic Designer: Brian Moore

Lighting Designer: Ashely Talcott

Costume Designer: Chole Thomas

Sound Designer: Zoelle Zellers

Makeup Designer: Olivia Raney

Technical Director: Justin Rozinski

For the back wall, as much stock as could be used was used. The budget was needed for the light boxes. Using more items from stock freed up enough room in the budget to do all the buttons the designer wanted.

This is a video of the spin walls in motion. The walls were attached with a loose bolt on the top of each allowing them to spin freely and a screw on bottom acting as an anchor.

Throughout the space with 15 light boxes in the shape of cellphone buttons. Coordinating with the light shop during the build process to make sure both scenic and lighting had enough time to build, wire, installs and focus the light boxes before tech.

The buttons were printed on white muslin and backed with luan and tinfoil. The luan was to keep light from spilling out and the tinfoil was used to increase the brightness of each of the lights.
